Embedded Systems Platform Product Manager
Job Description:
The Meru Product Manager (PM) is a key member of the Product Management team having full ownership of assigned products. This includes responsibility for product business plans, PRDs, revenue objectives, content decisions, beta program definition, schedule vs. feature trade-offs, test plan scenarios, liaison between the customer/salesperson and Engineering, product rollouts, and product end-of-life.
The Meru PM is the cross functional lead for Meru product initiatives throughout the product life cycle - from market investigation and product concept to final product obsolesence. The responsibilies include understanding customer applications and requirements (problem definition), new product / feature definition for Meru products (solution definition), defining product roadmaps, working with the development team on product development projects, new product introduction, working with manufacturing and customer support for resolution of prolduct issues and being a champion of customer satisfaction from initial product concept to general availability.
The Meru PM is involved in all aspects of market investigation, customer needs definition, customer requirements validation, product requirements documents (PRDs), system functional specification documents (SFSs), QA test plan development and customer documentation for market /product areas assigned. The PM is reponsible for feature - schedule tradeoffs, customer beta programs and driving to increase customer satisfaction for Meru products.
The Meru PM is responsible for developing, maintaining and communicating roadmap development priorities for products and features based on customer demand and business opportunity.
The Meru PM is the liaison between the customer/salesperson and engineering for all product requirements for new products.
The Meru PM is responsible for all business planning on assigned products. This includes analysis of industry market forecasts, new product forecasting, pricing, ASPs, revenue and margins.
The Meru PM is responsible for product launch, development of product messaging and competitive analysis for products assigned. Product messaging includes all outbound positioning messages for customers, partners, channels and PR activities. The PM will will work with corprate PR on the development of product collateral, presentations and messaging for analysts and press.
The Meru PM is responsible for understanding the WLAN competitive landscape and for development of cournter measure messaging and product definition to nerutalize competitive threats. This includes technical evaluation of competitior's products and providing leadership for competitive bakeoff testing for customer engagements and publications.
The Meru PM is responsible for working with the RSMs, SEs, Customer Support, Meru Docuemntation and Meru Training for education of product features and capabilities. This incudes development content, presentation of content, contributions of content and review of content prior to use.
The Meru PM will be responsible for assisting in the development of white papers, technical briefs, and implementation documents for publication on the web and printed media.
Required Skills:
- BSEE or BSCS with 10+ years in product management, business development or equivalent roles in a high technology company.
- Has thorough understanding of networking industry including business, technolgy and customer trends.
- Has the ability to develop strong knowledge of WLAN business, WLAN technology and company products.
- Has previous experience with a combination of networking hardware and software platforms. Exhibits a strong understanding of LAN and WAN networking protocols and technologies, including switching, routing, and security.
- Exceptional leadership for driving projects via cross-functional teams (development, manufacturing, customer support).
- Proven experience in developing product roadmaps, product positioning, industry partnerships and product business plans for high technology companies. Proven experience executing plans to complete deliverables.
- Proven experience in working with customers, sales teams and partners regarding emerging technologies and new products.
- Proven experience in design, development and implementation of busines plans, product plans, technical papers and reports.
- Strong understanding of LAN and WAN networking protocols and technologies, including switching, routing, and security, is required.
- Understanding of 802.11 and other wireless technologies is highly desirable.
- Outstanding communication skills and demonstrated ability in developing and delivering complex business and technical presentations.
- Proficient in developing content and presenting in front of various-size sales team, customer audiences and industry forums.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple, parallel projects to deadline.
