Policy Enforcement Module

Image

Policy Enforcement Module is composed of the two functional components: Per User Firewall and Generic Routing Encapsulation (GRE) tunneling.

Policy Enforcement Module enforces a security policy on the information flow between the wireless LAN (WLAN) and its distribution network, allowing only authorized protocols and services to traverse this boundary. As an added benefit, traffic is rate limited or denied according to corporate usage policies for a given application, freeing up the network pipe for business critical applications. Meru’s Policy Enforcement Module includes powerful application traffic classification engine that prioritizes and monitors information flow both for application and voice traffic. Both of these components work together to provide Enterprise customers with Authorization, Separation, and Control of wireless network traffic.

Benefits of GRE Tunneling

  • Security-Guest user traffic separated from corporate traffic through a virtual point-to-point link. It provides guest internet access giving flexibility to reach any web site while not compromising internal LAN security.
  • Widely supported tunneling protocol with Multiprotocol support
  • Monitoring of the end-to-end tunnel through Keepalive messages

Benefits of per User Firewall

  • Restricts network usage on per user basis
  • Firewall rules can be used to bandwidth throttle, deny, capture, or prioritize wireless traffic on per application flow basis
