Voice Services Module

Meru's virtualized Wireless LANs already makes VoIP more reliable by using System Director's zero-latency handoff. Each client remains connected to the same Virtual Port at all times, reducing the risk of dropped calls or noticeable delays as users move between different access points' coverage areas. The Voice Services Module adds even more advanced features required by large enterprises using 802.11 telephony.

Features

  • Guaranteed interoperability. Meru's WINS (Wireless Interoperability & Network Solutions) program has certified many popular phones and wireless VoIP devices for high performance.
  • Call Admission Control (CAC). No matter what the network capacity, too many VoIP users connecting through an AP will degrade performance for everyone. CAC avoids this by limiting the number of phones connected to each radio, shifting new calls to alternate radios or APs, thereby ensuring high call quality for all VoIP users.
  • Application-Aware Load Balancing. For high density deployments, System Director will dynamically move calls between multiple Virtual Cells that occupy different channels in the same physical space. This maximizes call density and avoids contention or busy signals. The same functionality is also available for data clients.
  • Location by Number.  A user's location can be pinpointed by phone number or extension as well as MAC or IP address. This simplifies management and saves critical time in an emergency.
