Why Meru?
Why Do Customers Love Meru? Why Do Competitors Hate Meru?
Standards
The Rhetoric
Meru is proprietary. What it does isn't possible within the confines of the 802.11 standard, so it must break them. Meru doesn't play well with others.
Our Response
Meru doesn't break standards. It makes them. Meru has actively contributed to the IEEE 802.11 standard, and chairs the Voice performance and interoperability certification group for the Wi-Fi Alliance. All Meru's products are fully Wi-Fi Certified, meaning that they are interoperable with standard Wi-Fi clients. And what Meru does is fully allowable within the IEEE 802.11 standard: It is just not possible within the confines of the wrong architecture, a choice the standard intentionally does not address.
Although Meru delivers unmatched performance and reliability, its access points are able to provide those same features across three different chipsets—including the same chipsets that most competitors use. Meru's unique technology lies in intelligent control of the access points and the air through the coordinated Air Traffic Control architecture, as well as smarter RF fundamentals.
Because of Meru's spectral efficiency and interference mitigation, networks based on Meru virtual cell technology are better neighbors than those based on legacy microcell architectures. For example, Meru networks can often be installed where no other network can fit, such as when only one channel is available because the others are used by adjacent networks. Microcell architectures cannot. And when placed on the same channel as legacy networks, the Meru system shares time fairly.
The Reality
"In our 'bake-off,' the Meru technology blew us away. There were no issues with coverage or capacity, no complaints from users."
– Director of management information and network services, Barnard College.
"We were incredibly impressed by Meru's single-channel architecture and how it simplified our deployment. As we began the fall academic semester, the Meru system easily handled our high density of users. Meru more than held its own against the legacy Cisco and Nortel APs we currently have installed in many common areas,"
– Director of communication services, Loyola College
